How Are These Ages Calculated?
🐶 Dogs
Dog aging rates vary significantly by size. Small dogs age more slowly after year 2 and often live 14–16+ years, while giant breeds age faster and typically live 8–10 years. Our calculator uses size-adjusted multipliers based on published veterinary research.
🐱 Cats
Cats age rapidly in the first two years (year 1 ≈ 15 human years, year 2 ≈ 24 human years), then slow to roughly 4 human years per calendar year. Indoor cats typically live longer than outdoor cats. Large breeds like Maine Coons mature more slowly.
